GIFFARD CHAPEL, ST HIERITHA'S CHURCH

Placed beside the Giffard monument in the church of St Heiritha is the gravestone of an infant, John Giffard (1725-1725), son of Roger Giffard (1702-1763) and (Roger's cousin) Elizabeth Giffard. Roger's parents were Henry Giffard (1675-1710) and Martha Hill (1678-1752), from whom Mary Emma Sercombe (1859-1922) is directly descended.

The gravestone's Latin inscription reads in translation:

Here lies John
Giffard son of Roger
Giffard of Atherington and
Elizabeth daughter of
John Giffard of Morebath
who died Sep 1725
