Born ca. 1769, Harry was the son of Henry Giffard (b.1739), and married Mary Ann Martin (1782-1830) in 1803. Their four daughters were Emma (1807-1853) who married William Goode Sercombe (1801-1869), Eliza (1809-1871) who married Baijer Otto Sercombe (1802-1847), Caroline (b.1814) who married Edward Sercombe (1797-1837), and Mary Ann (1816-1869) who married Stanley Lees Giffard (1788-1858).
Harry Giffard was Mary Emma Sercombe's (1859-1922) great-grandfather.

The gravestone bears the following inscription:

Sacred to the memory of
Harry Giffard Esq.,
late Lieutentant in
His Majesty's Royal Navy,
who departed this transitory
abode the 21st November 1817,
aged 48 years.
Left surviving Mary Ann
his Wife and four Daughters.
In Christ we rest our future hope.
