TIVERTON CASTLE
TIVERTON CASTLE

Within the castle’s courtyard Sir Roger Giffard (1533-1603) rebuilt a portion as a Tudor mansion, which probably destroyed a lot of the old castle buildings, and this became known as Giffard’s Court. In the angle between the old gatehouse and the new wing this slab can be seen let into the wall with his initials and the date: R 1588 G XXVI VII.
