BRIGHTLEIGH BARTON

Main entrance with sculpted stone heraldic escutcheon above the porch, erected by Colonel John Giffard (1602–1665), when he inherited the property c.1622 from his grandfather, showing the arms of Giffard impaling Wyndham, the family of his wife.
Brightleigh in Devon was the seat of the Giffard family from the early 16th century to 1715. All that remains of the estate is the large farmhouse known as Brightleigh Barton, to the west of which once stood the original moated mansion house.
