Seen in situ, a modern commemorative plaque to Sir Richard Grenville (1542-1591), son of Roger Grenville (1516-1545, captain of the Mary Rose when it sank on 15 July 1545).
Sir Richard was nephew of Mary Grenville (d. 1608) and his father Roger Grenville was Mary's brother. Mary married John Giffard (1523-1585), from both of whom Mary Emma Sercombe (1859-1922) is directly descended.
