Wife of Sir Walter Giffard and daughter of Henry de St George and Alice de Bretville. Lady Alice and Sir Walter lived in the second half of the 13th century and held the manor of Weare in the Torridge district of Devon. The ancient Giffard residence Weare Giffard Hall stands adjacent to Holy Trinity Church wherein this effigy of Lady Alice can be seen.
Walter was brother of Sir Roger Giffard, who married Anne Brewer (1158-1192), from whom Mary Emma Sercombe (1859-1922) is directly descended.
