MANDOLIN

Artist: Jane Lewis
Private Collection

The mandolin originally belonged to James Tree (1887-1969), who is photographed with the instrument c.1911 when he was serving with the British army in India. James and the same mandolin later survived the Battle of the Somme in 1918, and the instrument was passed down through the family. It is depicted here in this portrait of his great-great niece Kezia Parkins.
